Replication could be used to transfer data from the production volume to a remote disk on SAN or WAN. Data from all the disks is consolidated here and then can be backed up on the tapes.

Depending on the application and the environment, the data can be collected at a single box from multiple sources. Data backups from this consolidated location reduces the backup window. The production servers are also not affected because of the backup cycles.
